Jack White slams reality television

Dec 4 2012, 5:04am CST | by

Former White Stripes singer Jack White thinks people who go on reality television shows are in it for instant fame and take away credibility from real artists.

Jack White has hit out at reality TV shows.
The former White Stripes frontman has criticised people who appear on talent shows insisting they are only interested in instant fame and he claims the format dilutes the work of credible artists.
In an interview with the new issue of Britain's Esquire magazine, he said: ''The goal of modern celebrity is to make yourself into the lowest common denominator, 'Hey, I'm a guy just like you. I like beer, a football game.' Especially in reality television, you'll see what people will go so far as to make a fool out of themselves just to prove that.''
The 37-year-old musician went on to criticise Oscar-winning director Clint Eastwood, 82, who recently appeared on E! fly-on-the-wall series, 'Mrs. Eastwood & Company' with his wife Dina.
He said: ''I don't want to see a reality show about Michelangelo. You know, Clint Eastwood is doing one with his family and it's such a disappointment.
''There's no reason to put yourself in a position that makes things completely un-special.''
As well as taking a shot at reality television, Jack doesn't think celebrities should use social networking site Twitter to report on their mundane everyday activities.
He said: ''I think the only people who should have Twitter accounts are comedians. Because it's all about one-liners. I would use it if Conan O'Brien or Reggie Watts or Stephen Colbert were to walk into a room and tell me one joke and leave. But you don't want Gore Vidal telling you, 'I'm doing my dishes right now.' ''

Jack White Slams The Foo Fighters & Rolling Stone In 'Kanye West-esque' Concert Rant!

Sep 19 2014 5:01am CDT | Source: PerezHilton

Jack White is a rebel with a cause! The rocker was playing Fenway Park on Wednesday when he took a minute to speak to his audience, joking about how, unlike the Foo Fighters, he wouldn't be using a backup guitar player to cover up his mistakes. He followed that comment by teasing that the Dave Grohl diss was just to help feed RollingStone.com. After bashing the mag for its covers, its coverage of Kim Kardashian and Taylor Swift, and its "clickbait" article ...

Jack White Trashes the Kardashians, Kanye West, Taylor Swift, and Just About Everyone Else in EPIC Onstage Rant!

Sep 18 2014 12:59pm CDT | Source: The Hollywood Gossip

When we last saw Jack White, he was hating life at a Chicago Cubs game. Now, it seems that that wasn't an isolated incident, and baseball stadiums just bring out the rocker's cranky side, as dude went off on a tirade for the ages during a show at Fenway Park last night. Jack White Rants Against Everything! White kicked things off with an attack on the Foo Fighters, accusing the band of having a second guitar "play all the same parts" to help cover up an ...

Jack White blasts Foo Fighters and Rolling Stone Magazine in “Kanye West-esque rant”

Sep 18 2014 9:56am CDT | Source: Oh No They Didn't!

Jack White played a show at Fenway Park’s Bleacher Theater in Boston on Wednesday night. The real headline, however, was what the Third Man rocker said in between performances. As Pitchfork points out, White took swipes at Foo Fighters and Rolling Stone magazine during what he himself quipped to be a “Kanye West-esque rant.”Much like Kanye, White’s comments were all over the place. He began by defending the sanctity of live performance, expr ...

Dolomite Minor - 'Let Me Go'

Sep 16 2014 4:54am CDT | Source: Clash Music

Feel good rock 'n' roll...Rock 'n' roll is supposed to make you feel good. It's designed to be a distraction, an imaginary world to escape into. Within seconds of listening to Dolomite Minor, you sense that this is something they've bought into hook, line and sinker. Thick, sludgy blues, this is Jack White lost in a Louisana swamp, it's the Black Keys with some dirt ...

Premiere: King Tuff - 'Black Moon Spell'

Sep 15 2014 4:49am CDT | Source: Clash Music

Listen to it now...Rock 'n' roll is supposed to be a fantasy, a place to re-invent yourself on a stage dripping with beer and sawdust. King Tuff isn't a real king, not really. An alter ego for Kyle Thomas, it's a name which has become synonymous with sleazy glam riffs delivered with a garage rock ferocity. A cult name, 2012's self-titled studio album on house of fuzz Burger Records saw King Tuff leap into the public gaze. The enfant terrible ...

Watch: Beautiful Jack White Session

Sep 5 2014 4:08am CDT | Source: Clash Music

Shot by La Blogotheque...Jack White doesn't do standard rock shows. Earlier this year, for example, Clash was invited to an event in London. The Nashville guitarist took control of an entire building, simulated a potentially serious outbreak and then played a quickfire set - it was all rather exciting, take our word for it. Settling down in at the historic Saint-Saturnin Chapel at the Château de Fontainebleau, Jack White agreed to shot a rare live sessi ...

Benjamin Booker: Newport Folk Gets The Summertime Blues

Sep 3 2014 12:08pm CDT | Source: WNYC Music

It wouldn't be an overstatement to suggest that New Orleans singer-songwriter Benjamin Booker had a pretty good summer. Even before releasing his debut album last month, Booker's gravelly voice and bluesy swagger had guitar fans buzzing with anticipation. It didn't hurt that he'd nabbed a gig touring as the opening act for Jack White, one of his idols. With a borrowed acoustic guitar, Booker joined us outside one of the secluded secret t ...
