Robert De Niro proud to show dad's work

Jun 3 2014, 11:24am CDT | by

Robert De Niro is proud to keep his father's artwork on show.

The veteran actor was surprised when his late dad Robert De Niro Sr. - an abstract artist who died in 1993 - agreed to showcase his paintings in his restaurants and hotels, and also designed menus for one of his eateries, Tribeca Grill in New York, because he expected the "particular" painter to refuse his request.

The 'Silver Linings Playbook' star - who has been working on a documentary about his father, 'Remembering the Artist, Robert De Niro, Sr.' - says the works will be a lasting tribute to his dad, and he will never remove them from his businesses.

He said: "I wanted to show my father's work, for it to be seen as it should be, and I have these restaurants, a hotel, I have these places where I could put it, not all of them but some of them.

"I asked him to do the menus for the Grill and I didn't think he'd want to because he's very particular, I asked if he'd put some paintings up and he did, he hung them himself.

"I was surprised to hear he'd come every week with or two his friends and sit in the booths in the back and how proud he was of what was there. I was happy to hear that, especially after his passing away, because the menus are the same, I would never change that."

The 70-year-old actor is pleased to have always had the support of his father and knows his dad was "very proud" of all his achievements.

Speaking on 'The Daily Show', he said: "He was proud of me of course, he might have felt from time to time that he wished he had that success but he was always a very loving father, very proud, and that's just what he was."

Aug 16 2014 1:27pm CDT | Source: Perez Hilton

We recently learned that Robin Williams was battling Parkinson’s disease, but that apparently isn’t the main thing that drove him to his tragic suicide. According to a new report, it was the cancellation of his TV show The Crazy Ones. It lasted only one season before getting the axe and the actor saw it as a “personal failure.” Williams reportedly told one person before the show started: "My face is all over town [on billboards] and it's all on my ...

(Getty Images) According to Robert Pattinson himself, he’s a “bullsh*t artist” — at least when it comes to trying to score a movie role. “I’m quite good at doing meetings. If I’m just meeting someone about a job I’m like a dog, especially if my agent’s said to me: ‘A lot of people want this job.’ Then I’m like: ‘Oh yeah? Then I will do anything to get it!’” he shares in a new interview with The Guardian. Pattinson con ...

Miley Cyrus threw a hotel fit & screamed ‘that they should be glad to have her’

Aug 14 2014 6:10am CDT | Source: Celebitchy.com

I recently opened a ghost Instagram account to make it easier to track celebrities’ ongoing antics. For work! The experience has been interesting with one drawback: Miley Cyrus has been spamming up my feed, y’all. I swear she posts more than anyone else that I follow. Some celebs post a couple of photos per month. It feels like Miley posts a couple times an hour. She has wayyy too much time on her hands, even when she’s touring. A new story from this week’s Life & Style is pulling th ...

1. Christopher Reeve and William went to Julliard together in 1973. They were the only two people in a prestigious acting program. They stayed friends all of Reeve’s life. Williams even visited Reeve in the hospital after Reeve’s accident and he pretended to be a Russian doctor who was there to perform a Colonoscopy. Reeve said it was the first time he laughed since the accident and he realized it was going to be ok. 2. He did the Genie in “Aladdin”  and was paid ‘only’ $75,000. Al ...
