Boy George can relate to Justin Bieber.
The 52-year-old singer can understand why the ‘Believe’ hitmaker – whose recent antics have included being arrested for driving under the influence (DUI), driving with a suspended license and resisting arrest, allegedly being abusive to flight staff who asked him to stop smoking marijuana and being investigated over an egg attack on a neighbor’s house – has apparently gone off the rails because he is in a position where he doesn’t feel he has to listen to anyone.
George – who has previously battled drug addiction but has been sober for six years – said: “I can definitely identify with it completely and I can also identify with the fact that if you said anything to him, he’d laugh at you. Because I would have.
“If you said to me [at the height of my fame], ‘You know what? You’re messing this up.’ I wouldn’t have listened because you don’t listen when you’re that age… you don’t and that’s a shame because I could’ve saved myself a lot of drama. A lot of money as well.”
However, George thinks things are worse for today’s young stars because of the rise in social media and is grateful he didn’t have to grow up in the digital age.
He added in an interview with ‘Access Hollywood’: “I am really grateful that I kind of did a lot of growing up out of the spotlight because there [are] enough things on the internet that I hate.
“There are enough ugly pictures of me out there, so having anymore would be really depressing.”
