Leonardo DiCaprio honored by BAFTA nod

Leonardo DiCaprio is "truly honored" to be nominated for a BAFTA award.

The 39-year-old hunk has landed a Best Actor nod for his portrayal of scandalous stockbroker Jordan Belfort in Martin Scorsese's riveting new film 'The Wolf of Wall Street', and he is ecstatic to be up for the award alongside Christian Bale ('American Hustle') and Tom Hanks ('Captain Phillips').

He said in a statement: "I am truly honoured to be nominated today by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts. These nominations reflect the determination of an extraordinary cast, crew and of course the great Marty Scorsese."

The 2014 BAFTA nominations were announced in London today (08.01.14) and British actor Chiwetel Ejiofor - who is nominated for his harrowing portrayal of Solomon Northup in '12 Years a Slave' - is particularly excited to be considered for Best Actor alongside Hollywood heavyweights such as Leonardo, Christian and Tom.

He told BBC News: "It's been one of the greatest experiences I've had as an actor and as a person, so I can't tell you how excited I am and to be received this way by BAFTA is a really phenomenal moment."

Meanwhile, Dame Judi Dench celebrates a history-making 15th BAFTA nomination for Best Actress for her role in 'Philomena'.

The 79-year-old actress will battle 'Gravity' star Sandra Bullock and 'Blue Jasmine' leading lady Cate Blanchett for the award.

She enthused: "I'm very proud to be associated with this film and I thank BAFTA voters for the nomination. I'm honoured and thrilled to be in such fine company."
