Antonio Holmes, who knew the 40-year-old star through his Always Evolving racingteam, told People.com that police officers helped to clear space for the group and fans were asked to briefly disperse to give them time to mourn.
He also revealed that a public memorial is being planned for December 15, where fans will be able to pay their respects.
He explained: "We'll be over at Neptune's [Net] in Malibu to do a tribute ride. There's an infamous scene in the first 'Fast and the Furious' movie that was shot there."
