Bob Dylan expected to miss daughter's wedding

Sep 30 2013, 6:06am CDT | by Bang Showbiz

Bob Dylan is expected to snub his daughter's wedding, despite being invited to the nuptials.

The 72-year-old musician's 27-year-old daughter Desiree Dennis-Dylan - his sixth child, and only offspring with second wife Carolyn Dennis, his long-time back-up singer - is tying the knot with her girlfriend Kayla Sampson next August in Mira Loma, California.

Desiree - who met Kayla while performing in the Young Americans, a travelling non-profit performing arts club for youths - has invited her famous father to the nuptials but is expecting to be disappointed.

Jolene Sampson - Kayla's mother - told the New York Daily News newspaper: "Of course he's invited, but he's just not going to go. He didn't say that, but that's what we are assuming. It would be sad, but he is really supportive and happy for her."

Bob and Carolyn married in June 1986 - six months after Desiree was born - but divorced in October 1992. The marriage and their daughter's existence were a secret and were only revealed when Howard Sounes' Dylan biography, 'Down the Highway: The Life Of Bob Dylan', was released in 2001.

At the time, Carolyn insisted they kept their daughter a secret so she could have a "normal childhood". She had her mother's surname as a child but eventually took her famous father's surname when she was old enough to decide for herself.

Desiree has refused to be drawn on her dad Bob's potential wedding no-show.

Speaking through a publicist about the ceremony, Desiree said: "No decisions have been made about a wedding. We want to keep matters affecting our families private."

When quizzed on whether or not her dad will have a role in her big day, she said: "We don't know yet. We will have to see."

Dom Flemons Holds On To Those Old-Time Roots

Jul 30 2014 2:13pm CDT | Source: WNYC Music

From his vintage hat to his enormous 1920s banjo, Dom Flemons looks like he's time-traveled from a different era. Flemons was in Carolina Chocolate Drops, a Grammy-winning group that's extended the tradition of African-American string bands of the 1920s and '30s. His new solo album, Prospect Hill, is his first since leaving the group. Flemons sings and plays guitar, banjo, bones, harmonica, fife and jug. The album reflects his interest in old-time music, blues, early jazz and R ...

She sold 182,000 copies in one week alone. ‘Fess up, people. Did you buy the album? Lana’s still very upset about how she gets no respect. She’s really angry about it. This interview must have happened before she gave Rolling Stone the cold shoulder because she sounds less depressed and more ...

First Listen: Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, 'Hypnotic Eye'

Jul 20 2014 10:01pm CDT | Source: WNYC Music

Even when he was in his late 20s, Tom Petty had a curmudgeonly edge to him, so it's no surprise that he's sneering about threats to the American dream in the opening moments of his new album, Hypnotic Eye. At 63, Petty is well into his transition to full-blown misanthropy, at times splitting the difference between Randy Newman and Bob Dylan. (See: "Burnt Out Town.") But there's still playfulness to the way he presents himself, not to mention plenty of rock ' ...

Jul 18 2014 6:03am CDT | Source: WNYC Music

From its legendary beachfront locale to its celebrations of folk music's past, the Newport Folk Festival draws on more than half a century of celebrated traditions. But it's also an event in which folk's boundaries are tested: This is, after all, where Bob Dylan famously plugged in an electric guitar 49 years ago, in the process enraging the purists in the crowd. In recent years, Newport organizers have taken great liberties o ...

Taylor Swift Weighs In on the State of the Music Industry

Jul 8 2014 10:51am CDT | Source: Fresh 102.7

Country crossover megastar Taylor Swift is consistently proving to critics she is not to be placed in a box, so really an op-ed article in the Wall Street Journal shouldn’t surprise us — nor should the subject, the hot-button issue of “the future of the music industry.” Swift’s stance is relatively straight forward: “Music is art, and art is important and rare. Important, rare things are valuable. Valuable things should be paid for.” Swift poin ...
