I'm lucky to be alive: Elton John

Jul 10 2013, 3:54am CDT | by

London, July 10 (IANS) Singer Elton John, who had to cancel his European tour due to a potentially fatal appendix abscess, considers himself lucky that he is still alive.

London, July 10 — Singer Elton John, who had to cancel his European tour due to a potentially fatal appendix abscess, considers himself lucky that he is still alive.

The 66-year-old star, who was to perform in Europe, had to cancel the tour after experiencing stomach ache July 5. Medical tests later showed appendix abscess.

"I'm lucky to be alive," thesun.co.uk quoted John as saying.

John initially thought it was food poisoning, so he continued to perform. But later found out it was serious.

"I was a ticking time bomb. I guess I could have died at any time. I feel so lucky and so grateful to be alive. I played nine gigs and the White Tie and Tiara Summer Ball in agony," he said.

On July, the pain got unbearable and he was forced to go off stage halfway through his performance in Halle, Germany.

After the medical tests, John was given medicines to reduce his inflamed appendix, and antibiotics to counter the risk of blood poisoning.

Now, he is taking bed rest in his Windsor home. He is likely to undergo surgery once the swelling reduces.

"Elton is over the worst, but is still very sick. It's been a horrible ordeal," said a source.

The "Candle in the wind" hitmaker has cancelled the remaining dates of his European tour, including his headlining slot at Friday's Barclaycard British Summertime Festival in Hyde Park.

It is rumoured that the gig had sold only a fraction of its 65,000 capacity. But organisers said nearly 40,000 tickets had gone.

Sep 1 2014 11:05am CDT | Source: WWTDD.com

Gay Michael Sam did not make the final cut for the St. Louis Rams start of the season roster. Michael Sam made history on draft day when he kissed his boyfriend with a mouth full of cake on national television to signify that men who open mouth kiss other men with mouths full of cake woul ...

Petition Demands Knighthood for Ozzy Osbourne

Aug 4 2014 8:59am CDT | Source: Fresh 102.7

By Philip Cosores Let’s be real: if we were living in medieval times, Ozzy Osborne is probably one of the last people you’d want given a sword and ordered to protect your life. But, then again, Paul McCartney and Elton John wouldn’t necessarily be much higher on the list. These are just honorary titles, ones that mean a whole lot to the person given the title, and Ozzy Osbourne has already said he “couldn’t think of anything better” than being knighted. Re ...

Through The Past Darkly: Eminem’s Marshall Mather’s LP

Aug 3 2014 6:19pm CDT | Source: All HipHop

The pieces most vital to the lifeblood of culture hardly ever get their fair share of credit when history is discussed. Sure, civil wars, technological inventions and diplomats are important, but the arts have a strong influence on the course of history, whether you choose to believe it or not. Anything one finds valuable or depraved about our generation can take solace in the fact that it all started with Em. Whether you were white, black, yellow, Puerto Rican or Haitan, you had the album. I ...
