Jon Bon Jovi donates $1m for Hurricane Sandy relief

Jon Bon Jovi has donated $1 million to the Hurricane Sandy relief efforts in New Jersey.

The 'Livin' on a Prayer' rocker is a native resident of the state which was ravaged by the super storm last October, and the philanthropic star has opened his checkbook to help aid his fellow Garden State citizens who were affected by the natural disaster.

The generous donation - which will go towards repairing damaged homes and other establishments in various communities - was announced yesterday (07.08.13) in Jon's hometown of Sayreville where he was joined by the New Jersey state governor Chris Christie. The 51-year-old rocker said: "Natural disasters spare no one. But you can't imagine the devastation, destruction and despair until Mother Nature takes aim at your home town. This is bitter sweet; it's heartbreaking to see our fellow New Jerseyans so affected by the ravages of Hurricane Sandy but we're happy to make the donation and offer real, substantial help to the residents of Sayreville and the nearby, low-lying communities as they rebuild their homes and lives."

Jon's kind-hearted gesture was praised by the Governor Christie, who thanked the 'Keepin' the Faith' singer on behalf of the state.

He said: "I thank Jon and Bon Jovi for all of the great work they've done for New Jersey."

Jon has previously lent his support to Hurricane Sandy relief efforts by performing at a benefit concert in December 2012, which raised proceeds to help victims, and he has even personally visited affected families in his hometown.
