Chris Colfer wants to be an inspiration

Chris Colfer hopes his 'Glee' character will inspire children around the world.

The actor plays openly gay teenager Kurt Hummel in the hit musical show and feels "blessed" to play a character that young teenagers struggling with their sexuality can relate to.

In an interview with French chat show host Jean Marc Morandini, he said: "I think I'm very blessed to be able to play that role on the show because I know it has helped a lot of kids around the world. He's a character that means so much to people who relate to him and are inspired by him."

Although he's been on 'Glee' for four seasons now, the 23-year-old star admits he has no plans to leave the show in the near future and hopes there are more interesting storylines to come for Kurt.

He said: "I'm definitely the youngest cast member so I'm hoping to have more time ahead. We'll see."

However, despite his love of the hit show, Chris admits he does get embarrassed watching some of his all-singing, all-dancing routines on TV - particularly his impersonation of Beyonce's 'Single Ladies'.

He said: "Oh no, I hate watching myself. I get so embarrassed! I try not to look at myself. I just think, 'Oh, what was I doing?' It's for a pay check, right?"
