Mumford and Sons Glastonbury show to go ahead

Mumford and Sons will play Glastonbury despite bassist Ted Dwane undergoing emergency brain surgery two weeks ago.

'The Cave' rockers' headlining appearance at the British event on Sunday (30.06.13) was thrown into doubt when Ted was rushed to hospital on June 10 to have the blood clot removed, but he has since made a speedy recovery.

Keyboard player Ben Lovett told Radio Times magazine: "To be honest, Ted dealt with the whole thing better than any of us could have imagined.

"And I don't think there's any need to dramatise what is obviously a very dramatic situation.

"All we feel is incredibly grateful and happy that he's going to be OK, and that we're going to get back out on that stage at Glastonbury as four brothers and do what we do."

Mumford & Sons - which also includes singer Marcus Mumford and banjo player Winston Marshall - first played Glastonbury in 2008 and have appeared at the festival every year since.

Ben added: "Whenever we tour elsewhere then come back to Glastonbury it always reminds us of how great it is to be British, and what a great British institution it is."

Mumford and Sons will be joined in headlining Glastonbury by Arctic Monkeys and The Rolling Stones.

The New Basement Tapes, 'When I Get My Hands On You'

Oct 29 2014 2:27pm CDT | Source: WNYC Music

Since 1967, a series of recordings known as The Basement Tapes has loomed large in music history. Bob Dylan and The Band casually recorded more than 100 songs — many of them captured in archival collections — in the upstate New York ranch house known as Big Pink. The recent discovery of even more Dylan writings from that fruitful period has helped inspire an unusual project: The New Basement Tapes, a supergroup that breathes new life into 47-year-old lyrics. Led by producer T-Bone Burnett, the b ...

Richard Hawley: The Complete Guide

Oct 27 2014 4:31am CDT | Source: Clash Music

As his early LPs are reissued…Across the 13 years of Richard Hawley’s solo career to date, he has never been in step with the times. He has never clambered aboard a passing bandwagon, nor given much thought to the upper echelons of the charts. Instead, he has quietly gone about building up a body of work so consistently excellent that it’s hard to believe he’s not huge. Today, his first three titles are reissued on CD and vinyl, mar ...

By Scott T. Sterling Earlier this year, it was revealed that London’s iconic Battersea Power Station was set to be demolished to make room for a “mixed use facility” that will include luxury villas. The news was most disconcerting to Pink Floyd fans, as the Power Station’s chimneys are prominently featured on the band’s 1977 album, Animals (pictured above) making it a rock ‘n’ roll tourist attraction for those fans to visi ...

Premiere: The Lost Brothers - 'New Songs Of Dawn And Dust'

Sep 15 2014 6:23am CDT | Source: Clash Music

Folk-driven Irish duo return...It's a remarkable facet of the current folk boom that so much of it is divorced from trad's celtic roots. Mumford & Sons may aim to sound like a group from rural Ireland, yet nobody within the group owes a serious debt to the Emerald Isle. Which is why The Lost Brothers are so vital. Amid a scene which cloaks itself in a veil of authenticity, the group actually walk it like they talk it. Sharing a folk influence, the duo's stark, often q ...

British rock music is back. No, really, it is.

Sep 4 2014 8:53am CDT | Source: Music Week

There is little more tedious than hearing some hoary old industry sage tell you that ‘rock music is dead’. Then, sure as the BBC turning up early at a Yewtree raid, will follow the bullshit Yin to that Yang: managers of young noise-rampant oiks who are, like, totally going to show the world why ROCK IS BACK! The only way to prove or disprove each hypothesis is with the combative antagonist’s kryptonite - solid, square data - and, we ...
