Colin Farrell hates the idea of owning a gun.
The 'Dead Man Down' star - who has been sober for eight years - revealed his new movie has made him think a lot about gun ownership and he would never want to own a weapon in case his life ever spun out of control again.
The 36-year-old Irish actor told the MailOnline website: "I wouldn't trust myself to have a gun. What if I got drunk again? What if my heart is broken and I go crazy for a bit, or, even worse, what if I forget to lock my gun away somewhere safe and someone has an accident? I forget my car keys all the time, so why not that?
"Americans say: 'Oh, but it's our constitutional right, we're all grown-ups, give us guns.'
"Well, don't give me a gun, because I'm a human being!"
Colin - who has a nine-year-old son, James, with model Kim Bordenave, who has Angelman Syndrome, and a three-year-old son, Henry, with Polish actress Alicja Bachleda-Curus - also revealed he hopes to scale back his career in eight years.
He said: "I'll be 45 then, and I don't want to be making films back to back.
"People working on films miss important things. They miss weddings and funerals, and some of them even miss the births of their children. It affects their marriages. But there is another life out there.
"The idea of being a celebrity means very little. On a practical level, it's come to me in conjunction with earning a certain amount of money so I can take care of my boys, particularly James because we can afford certain therapies that some other parents can't.
"But for me, one of the greatest gifts of achieving fame is it means you don't have to sit around wondering if being famous will bring you happiness, because you quickly find out it won't!
"But I'll tell you one thing. I think that if when I was 17, I'd had the level of emotional health that I have now, I would not have become an actor.
"I mean, yes, I love film, but when I was younger the acting stuff was to do with wanting to be the center of attention!"
