Viola Davis 'prayed' for husband

Viola Davis "prayed" for a husband weeks before she met Julius Tennon.

The 47-year-old 'Beautiful Creatures' actress used to feel like the "loneliest" woman in the world when she was single and thought she would never find happiness.

However, after taking advice from a friend to describe her perfect man, Viola met Julius less than a month later when they worked together on US TV show 'City of Angels' in 2000, and immediately bonded.

Speaking to The New York Post newspaper, Viola recalled: "I was the loneliest woman in the world, and someone said, 'You should just pray for a husband'.

"I said I wanted a big black man from the South who looked like a football player, who already had children, who maybe had been married before. Three and a half weeks later, I met my husband.

"He was the anesthesiologist, Dr. Holly, and I was Nurse Lannett. We were passing blood in a scene. He knew how lonely I was. I was out in LA and I hated it and he said, 'I'll show you around Los Angeles. I'll show you around the Santa Monica pier.' "

Viola and Julius - who was a football player in college and has two sons from a previous marriage - will celebrate their 10th wedding anniversary on June 23 this year and the couple describe their marriage as "magical".

Viola gushed: "We've been together 13 years, and from the first day, it was magic."

Julius added: "She's the sweetest woman. It's so great to see her be all of who she is. That's what I love about her."

The couple added a new member to their family when they adopted their two-year-old daughter Genesis in October 2011.

Taraji P. Henson covers Ebony: ‘I’m still treated like I’m on the D-list’

Sep 11 2014 6:00am CDT | Source: Celebitchy.com

I love Taraji P. Henson. I didn’t start loving her until The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, which was the role that earned her an Oscar nomination. That’s when I started reading about her and she’s just a really cool, talented woman. She’s had a diverse career in film and TV and she’s currently starring in No Good Deed, the Idris Elba home-invader movie. Taraji + Idris? I hope the film makes money, because she deserves to keep gett ...

Viola Davis: ‘I don’t have Angelina Jolie/Reese Witherspoon power’

Sep 9 2014 3:32pm CDT | Source: Oh No They Didn't!

Viola Davis is sitting on the couch in her airy living room in Granada Hills, California, busily swiping on her iPhone. “Here it is,” she says, landing on a photo of a sagging building—her grandparents’ house on the Singleton Plantation in St. Matthews, South Carolina, where she and her five siblings were all born. The roof has a gaping hole, and the house looks fragile enough to be taken down by a light wind. “It had no running water, no indo ...

Viola Davis: ‘I don’t have Angelina Jolie/Reese Witherspoon power’

Sep 8 2014 6:50am CDT | Source: Celebitchy.com

This cover came out a few weeks ago, but I totally missed it until now. To be fair, I think most outlets missed it, which is too bad because Viola Davis is one amazing lady and I really want her to get more press. Viola is coming to television in a big way – her Shonda Rhimes show, How to Get Away with Murder, premieres on ABC on September 25th, a Thursday (yay). I really, really hope the show does well. So, Viola covers the September issu ...

Jessica Chastain and James McAvoy on 'Eleanor Rigby,' First Heartbreak, and Robin Williams

Sep 2 2014 2:20pm CDT | Source: Oh No They Didn't!

It was, all things considered, a leap of faith. Two years ago, Jessica Chastain, fresh off her Oscar nomination for The Help, and James McAvoy, just after the release of X-Men: First Class, signed on to a sprawling New York love story helmed by a first-time director by the name of Ned Benson. Now, Benson was a longtime friend of Chastain’s, but still, his filmmaking chops were unproven, to say the least.T ...
