New Delhi, Feb 5 (IANS) Young designer Masaba Gupta's debut collection for fashion brand Satya Paul will open the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week (WIFW) autumn-winter 2013 starting March 2013.

New Delhi, Feb 5 — Young designer Masaba Gupta's debut collection for fashion brand Satya Paul will open the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week (WIFW) autumn-winter 2013 starting March 2013.

The five-day event will be held at Pragati Maidan.

"Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI) is proud to announce that the upcoming WIFW 2013 will begin with a fashion show by Masaba Gupta for Satya Paul. Her first collection for the 27-year old label will be the opening show of the five-day fashion event," FDCI president Sunil Sethi said in a statement.

Satya Paul appointed 24-year-old Gupta, daughter of actress Neena Gupta, as fashion director late last year. She says she is "honoured" to open the fashion week in her "new home city".

"It is a coveted spot, and I am committed to creating a collection that does this slot, as well as the house of Satya Paul, proud. I am excited, and deeply thankful to Mr.Sethi and to Satya Paul, for this opportunity," said Gupta, who is popular for incorporating quirky prints in her collections.

Before her, designer Puneet Nanda was spearheading the label.

Where are India's women?

Sep 3 2014 7:57pm CDT | Source: CNN World Music

The New Delhi rape case left the whole world wondering why India is treating its women so badly. In fact, discrimination against women already starts in the womb: India has some of the most distorted sex-ratios in the world. There are regions where fewer than 800 girls are born for every 1,000 boys. For many reasons Indian culture pr ...

Indian elephant gets her own art exhibition to raise money to protect the endangered animal

Aug 28 2014 8:23pm CDT | Source: Art Daily

A series of paintings by an Indian elephant have gone on sale at an upmarket gallery in New Delhi to raise money to protect the endangered animal. Artist Alpana Ahuja used baskets of bananas and other treats to lure Phoolkali, an elephant who was rescued from her abusive owners, to create her masterpieces -- giant footprints in bright hues. The trick, she said, was to catch the elephant in a good mood, dab paint on its foot and press it against a giant canvas. The money ra ...
