New Delhi, Jan 17 — Let's Design, a pan-India design competition that educates and inspires young designers to work with cotton fabrics, is back with its fifth season.

Organised by Cotton Council International (CCI), in association with the Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI), it takes contestants through a series of challenges that test their creative and technical design skills.

"With Let's Design we hope to elicit the latent talent of aspiring designers and through their creativity highlight the fashion potential of cotton," said Agnieszka Fijol, CCI's Programme Head, India, in a statement.

Sunil Sethi, president, FDCI said: "Yet another initiative by FDCI to find new talent in fashion design, we are proud to associate with Cotton Council International to promote Indian talent and endorsing the use of the versatile fabric - cotton."

During the contest, each task centers on a challenge that the contestants must execute in a prescribed time with the provided resources.

This season's theme is the world's five fashion capitals - New York, London, Paris, Milan and Tokyo. Shortlisted contestants will interpret their favourite fashion capital in a single garment.

The finale will is Feb 5 at Hotel Sheraton here and the winner will walk away with Rs.10,00,000 as prize money among other opportunities provided by FDCI.

The trick, she said, was to catch the elephant in a good mood, dab paint on its foot and press it against a giant canvas. The money raised ...

Our India Correspondent Can't Kick The Bucket Bathing Habit

Jul 25 2014 9:27am CDT | Source: WNYC Music

Two items that are essential to most Indian households are a bucket and a pitcher. They are to Indians what showers are to Americans, an integral part of the daily ritual of bathing. In a country where you can't count on running water, the vast majority of people bathe using a bucket of water, and a plastic pitcher to pour the water over your head and body. Like every other Indian I know, I grew up with buc ...
